DIY Heart Centerpiece

DIY Heart Centerpiece

Hey guys!

Christmas is over and Valentine’s Day is pretty much here! I’ve been dreaming about making this centerpiece for so, so long and I finally got around to doing this. Not only can this be made for Valentine’s Day, it can also be incorporated in Weddings (monogram!!), baby showers, graduations, birthdays, pretty much any event! I made this centerpiece for a date night with my husband and I absolutely love it! I also made this one, too!! Check it out after you read this post :D

Materials Needed for this Project:

Plywood cut down to a square (I have 11 1/4 x 11 1/4)

2x2 cut down to two (11 1/4 pieces) and two (14 1/8 pieces)

2 Bricks Floral Foam

Plastic Bag

Paint or Stain (optional)

Bucket of Water

Paper

Fresh Flowers

Reindeer Moss

Floral Wire

Tools Needed for this Project:

Kreg Jig Tool & Screws

Drill

Xacto Knife or Blade

Staple Gun with Staples

Miter Saw

Fine Grit Sandpaper

Clamp

Caulk Gun with Caulk

Knife

Scissors

Wire Cutters

INSTRUCTIONS:

To begin, I cut down wood to the dimensions that I wanted and drilled pocket holes to the flat piece. Next, I propped up the wood with another piece and drilled the wood into the frame.

Once everything was assembled, I caulked the edges and once it was dry, I painted the frame white.

Once the paint had some time to dry, I cut down a plastic bag to size and used my staple gun to secure it to the box. You’ll be left with some extra plastic around the edges so I took my blade and cut down the plastic neatly to align with the frame.

I cut down some floral foam to the thickness I wanted and dry fitted it to the frame. I submerged the foam in water then placed it in the box and made adjustments as needed, just make sure it’s tight fitting and not loose.

I cut out a heart off camera then placed it to the center of the box and put some flowers to the main points of the heart so I can remove the paper and still form a heart. I did make sure to cut the flower stem down on an angle so it’s easier for them to “drink” the water.

I put the spray roses on the edges and in the center, I added carnations. I think the contrast here is really beautiful.

Finally, I took this green wire and cut it down to about 2 inches then folded it around my finer to form a kind of hook. You’ll need a bunch of these and you can totally make several at a time instead of one at a time.

I took some reindeer moss chunks and placed it around the heart, securing it in place with the hook I created, sort of like securing your hair with a bobby pin. I used about 4 bags of these to complete the centerpiece.

Once it was all done, I added rose petals to the table along with some candles and that is it! I hope you love this DIY as much as I do and not only is this a gorgeous centerpiece, this is also a unique way to give a special gift to your special someone this Valentine’s Day!!
